OnoMap is a project developed from research in the Department of Geography at University College London. As a spin out from this research we are now able to off the following OnoMap services:

OnoMAP Software

OnoMAP Area Profiles

OnoMAP Names Families

OnoMAP Public Profiles

 OnoMAP Software
The OnoMap stand alone software enables you to code your own names data against the OnoMap taxonomy. The software is very safe and simple to use; requiring no complex installation. Because of the sensitive nature of names, and limitation this often puts on their analysis, we designed this software to be run within a secure and offline environment where no data is transferred from your local machine. The software analyses Forenames and Surnames to add the OnoMap taxonomy, then provides you with an export file of the results and graphs which compare your data to national and regional distributions.

 OnoMAP Area Profiles

The 2001 Census is the main source of ethnicity information in the UK, however there are large groups of people not covered by these information For example, people from Poland would be classified as “White Other” in the 2001 Census.

By combining the OnoMap taxonomy with electoral roll data we have created a range of areal estimates for the multicultural composition of local areas.

These data provide valuable intelligence not available from any other national survey about the types of people who live within local areas.

OnoMAP Name Families
Holding a large database of names from across the world has enabled the creation of the first world “Name Families” database. Using this information it is possible to find the similarity between any groups of names.

We believe this provides unique intelligence about the relationship between people and their likely behaviours.
